Nature Tourism in Provence: our must-sees
Around our campsite near Sainte-Maxime, the hinterland abounds with remarkable sites, perfect for nature tourism in Provence: gorges, lakes, and vineyards follow one another just a few minutes’ drive away, for memorable walks with family or friends.
Green Provence
Green Provence unveils a palette of enchanting treasures, carried by its 43 authentic Provençal villages. Shady alleys, lively squares, and ancient fountains tell, at each step, the story of a Provence preserved from mass tourism. Between vineyards and olive groves, the heritage can be discovered through walks without a set itinerary, in a region labeled Land of Art and History. Between two nature walks, also stop in the villages and cultural sites to visit in PACA: Green Provence is a true land of exploration!
Sillans-la-Cascade: Provençal village and turquoise waterfall
A few minutes from the campsite, the village of Sillans-la-Cascade hides one of Green Provence’s most beautiful secrets: a 42-meter waterfall plunging into a lagoon with turquoise waters, in the heart of a cool, shaded forest. Allow about 25 minutes’ walk from the car park to reach the viewpoint facing the falls. Swimming in the main basin is regulated, but a few coves downstream allow for a refreshing dip. Picturesque streets, medieval ramparts, and art galleries complete the village visit.
Pennafort Gorges: exceptional landscapes
The Pennafort Gorges, just a few minutes from the estate, offer a captivating natural experience. Their majestic cliffs, lush vegetation, and the gentle murmur of the river create a setting conducive to hiking and contemplation. A marked trail allows you to walk along the gorges for a short distance, ideal for a family stroll for a morning, before returning to enjoy the campsite’s swimming pool in the afternoon.
The Verdon Gorges: turquoise waters and lush nature
The Verdon Gorges amaze, charm, and inspire with their grandeur and wild beauty. Carved into limestone rocks, they form a spectacular canyon where the turquoise waters of the Verdon meander below. Hiking, kayaking, or contemplation from viewpoints: activities abound around this site, classified among Europe’s most beautiful canyons. Allow less than an hour’s drive from the campsite for a full day of exploration, between dizzying viewpoints and swimming in turquoise waters.
The Wine Route: tasting and discoveries
Explore the prestigious Provence Wine Route, an invitation to a culinary discovery starting from Domaine Villa Verde. Lined with picturesque vineyards, this route offers enchanting landscapes.
Taste wines in renowned estates and let yourself be seduced by the aromatic richness of local grape varieties, including Château d’Esclans, owned by the LVMH group, which illustrates the region’s viticultural prestige. An outing that can be enjoyed by couples or friends, just a few minutes’ drive from your accommodation, for a gourmet interlude in the heart of the Provençal vineyard.
The Estérel Massif: between walks and hikes
Explore the wonders of the Estérel Massif, located near Domaine Villa Verde. This land of contrasts invites you to walks and hikes through breathtaking landscapes. The volcanic rocks tinged with red and ocher blend with the blue waters of the Mediterranean, creating a striking contrast appreciated by hikers and photography enthusiasts alike, about thirty minutes from the campsite.
Lake Saint-Cassien: nautical base and nature walk
Lake Saint-Cassien, a stone’s throw from our campsite in Provence, offers a breathtaking natural spectacle. Water sports enthusiasts will find their happiness at the nautical base: canoeing, pedal boating, swimming, and much more. A day by the water, away from the hustle and bustle of the coast, to enjoy the surrounding calm while indulging in some water activities with the family: a great warm-up before trying the other sports activities to do in Provence. To prepare your excursions into the hinterland, the Provence Verte & Verdon Tourist Office provides hiking guidebooks and practical information on the region’s natural sites.
